Harvest 2012

Well harvest 2012 is in the books.  I am sure that most know that 2012 was a drought year.  All in all our yields weren’t terrible.  Definitely down from a normal year, but not as bad as we were bracing for either.  We actually had one field of soybeans that was the best average we have ever had for a field!  Unfortunately many other fields pulled it down.

A few scenes from combining corn:

We farm some hills…. 🙂

Unloading a truck in to the “wet” bin.

Corn drying set up.  Wet corn is put into the bin on the left, then goes into the dryer and lastly being augured up to one of the two bins on the right.  We didn’t have to dry very much this year, most of the corn was in the 18% moisture range.  We dry it to about 15%.  I love the sights, sounds and smells of corn drying.  🙂

Next up is fall tillage, nice view from the field i was in on Wednesday:
